Antonio Cassano firmly believes Inter Milan are the clear favorites to clinch the Serie A title this season, even amid intense competition.
During his latest talk on Viva el Futbol via FCInterNews, the ex-AC Milan and Roma forward played down Atalanta’s Scudetto chances.
It’s been a while since the beginning of a Serie A season has been this dramatic.
Defending champions Inter humbled a lowly Hellas Verona 5-0 on Saturday to remain within striking distance of leaders Napoli.
However, only one point separates the two teams after 13 rounds.
Meanwhile, Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Lazio maintained their stellar runs at the weekend.
All three teams finished Match Day 13 level on points with the Nerazzurri.
On the other hand, AC Milan and Juventus shared the spoils in an uneventful 0-0 draw at Stadio San Siro.
Another stalemate saw Thiago Motta’s side lose further ground on Napoli, falling four points behind the Partenopei.
Despite being the only unbeaten team in Serie A, Juventus’ inability to convert draws into victories could cost them dearly.
As for Inter, they’ve hit the ground running since a 2-1 defeat to Milan in mid-September.
Indeed, Simone Inzaghi has overseen a remarkable 11-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.
“Atalanta for the title? Inter are by far the strongest team in Italy right now,” Cassano said.
“I put Napoli behind them. Gasperini’s team needs to finish in the top four, and that would already be a masterpiece.
“To win the title, you also need other elements, especially when you get to the crucial part of the season in March and April.”
In addition to backing Inter, Cassano made bold top-four predictions.
Indeed, he believes Juventus and Milan could fail to qualify for the Champions League.
“Juve and Milan will miss out on the Champions League spots.”
