Ryan Mason has been linked with the vacant Watford job after his short spell as West Brom head coach ended in January.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Hornets are seeking a successor after Ed Still was dismissed at season’s end following only a handful of games. Still, the brother of Will who briefly managed Southampton this season, endured a poor late run.

Mason took charge at Albion last summer in his first managerial post after a long stint coaching at Tottenham. He was dismissed after 27 games following a defeat to Leicester City in January, with Albion’s away form proving decisive. He had previously been linked with a move abroad.

His successor, Eric Ramsay, fared no better, leaving with no wins from nine matches in charge.

Bookmakers have Mason among the early favourites for Watford, alongside Garcia Pimienta, former Southampton boss Russell Martin, ex-Leicester manager Marti Cifuentes and departed Burnley manager Scott Parker. A return to a Championship dugout next season remains possible.
