Ryan Mason, who took his first managerial job at West Brom last summer, has been linked with the vacant Watford post after his January exit.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, bookmakers have Mason among the early contenders to replace Ed Still. Ed Still was dismissed at the end of the season after only a handful of games. He is the brother of Will, who briefly managed Southampton this season.

Mason enjoyed an excellent start at Albion after moving up from a long coaching stint at Tottenham. Results tailed off and a defeat to Leicester City proved decisive as he was sacked in January.

Albion’s poor away form proved the final straw, and his reign ended after 27 games. Successor Eric Ramsay fared no better, leaving without a win from nine matches.

Mason had previously been linked with a move abroad, but he could yet return to a Championship dugout next season. Early betting also lists Garcia Pimienta, ex-Southampton chief Russell Martin, former Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes and departed Burnley manager Scott Parker.
