Lee Hendrie has spoken to FLW about the possibility of Scott Wright moving on this January due to a lack of game time.

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has claimed that Birmingham City winger Scott Wright could very well be on the move this January after the Scotsman has struggled for game time at St Andrew's since his move from Rangers in 2024.

Birmingham amassed a record 111 points in League One last season as the Blues romped to the league title under manager Chris Davies, and expectations over the club's return to the Championship have, understandably, been set high.

The Blues invested heavily in the squad this summer, aiming to build upon the success of last season, bringing in the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Marvin Ducksch, Lewis Koumas, Demarai Gray, Patrick Roberts and Kanya Fujimoto in the attacking areas.

These additions have joined the likes of Jay Stansfield, Keshi Anderson and former Rangers man Wright in the club's forward ranks, making heavy room for competition.

Wright, in particular, struggled for game time in the third tier last season following his move from Scotland, and with the amount of competition ahead of him at St Andrews now, a January move could be on the cards if he is to get on the field anytime soon.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie believes that Wright could very well be on the move this January if he wants to earn some minutes.

Hendrie said: "I think obviously coming down from Rangers, [he's] probably not got the game time he'd probably expected to get.

"I think he's a decent player as well, but for obvious reasons, he's not featuring, so yes, I think there will be a lot of movement, particularly from that Birmingham City squad.

"They have got a massive squad of players that they have brought in. I know it's a long old season, strength in depth is massive.

"But you feel the likes of Scott Wright, he will be looking to maybe getting away come January if he doesn't feature from now on in."

Scott Wright has been a peripheral figure at Birmingham City ever since his move from Rangers

Since making the switch from Glasgow to Birmingham in 2024 for a fee of around £300,000, Wright has struggled to truly establish himself in the club's first team fold, having made just 20 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, scoring three and assisting two.

The former Scottish youth international is yet to have made an appearance for the club this season and seems to have fallen further down the pecking order with the emergence of Gray, Koumas and Roberts on the flanks.

According to Capology, Wright is earning a reported £10,000 per week at St Andrews, which whilst that does not make him anywhere near the club's highest earner, it is the same amount as first-choice keeper Ryan Allsop and Wolves loanee Tommy Doyle.

Birmingham are blessed with their current financial situation, meaning they don't have to overly worry about Wright's payment. However, for a player who has barely been used and is unlikely to feature anytime soon, it is a cost worth cutting.
