Veteran Spanish defender Raul Albiol will undergo his medical tests with Pisa on Monday, as Tuesday’s exclusive is confirmed.

Football Italia had given the news that there was an offer from Pisa on August 26 and he was very enthusiastic about the idea, meeting club directors to seal the deal.

The centre-back will celebrate his 40th birthday next week and give himself a gift with a return to Serie A football.

Pisa an intriguing challenge for Albiol

Albiol brings valuable experience to the back line coached by Alberto Gilardino, who earned promotion back into the top flight after a 34-year absence.

He is currently a free agent after his contract with Villarreal was allowed to run down, having joined them in 2019 from Napoli.

The defender has decided to see out his career in Italy, having already spent six years at Napoli, where he won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.

With experiences at Valencia, Getafe and Real Madrid too, Pisa will be only Albiol’s second club outside of Spain.
