Fabrizio Brignani underlined his set-piece threat, pouncing on a loose ball from a corner as CD Castellón beat Granada 3-2 at SkyFi Castalia. The Italian felt the team had returned to their level after a recent dip.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the club invested a little over one million euros to recruit the 1.93-metre centre-back from Mantova, impressed by his command of set plays.
Conscious of his physical edge, he spent a summer attacking crosses delivered by his cousin and friends, trusting repetition over flair. His best return is nine goals in a season, which helped Mantova up to Serie B, after spending most of his career in Serie C.
He now has five for the season, and Castellón have not lost when he scores, after strikes in draws at Las Palmas and Albacete, and wins over Dépor, Huesca and Granada, the last two at SkyFi Castalia.
Against Granada he experienced both ends of it, first scoring an own goal then finding the net. He said the win was what mattered, yet admitted irritation with his own errors and said each player has to demand more if they want to be up there.
Brignani has settled alongside Alberto at centre-back, with Sienra sidelined. He has featured in 24 league games, 15 from the start, turned 28 in January and is contracted until June 2029. He valued the collective response after six winless outings, targeting a home upturn following a useful point in Albacete.
