FC Bayern Women have extended the contract of central defender Luzie Zähringer until 30 June 2029. The German youth international’s previous deal was due to expire in summer 2027. At the same time, the Munich club have agreed a season-long loan move for the 18-year-old to Bundesliga newcomers VfB Stuttgart.
Bianca Rech, FC Bayern director of women’s football: “Since her move to Munich, Luzie has undergone a very good development. She’s matured as a player in the last two years and grown into a leading role in our second team. She’s one of the biggest talents in her position in German football, which the gold Fritz Walter Medal in 2025 backs up. We’ve deliberately allowed her to go on loan to VfB Stuttgart to take her next step: she’ll be able to gain valuable game experience in the top flight in an ambitious environment. We’ll monitor her progress closely, keep in regular contact and look forward to welcoming her back to Munich a more experienced player.”
Luzie Zähringer: “I’m very happy to have extended my contract at FC Bayern. The last two years after my move from Waiblingen have been very valuable for my development as a player and person. I feel really at home in Munich and at FC Bayern, so this extension means a huge amount to me. At the same time, I’m excited for my time at VfB Stuttgart. To have the chance to play for my hometown club next season is a nice thing for me. The Bundesliga offers me the opportunity to take the next steps in my development, and it’s an opportunity I want to take in order to progress to a high level and help the team achieve its goals. After that, I look forward to returning to Munich.”
Zähringer, who was born on 10 May 2008, moved to Munich from the FSV Waiblingen U17 team in summer 2024. The central defender has mainly featured for the Bayern reserves in the second division over the last two years, where she quickly developed into an important figure. She made 22 appearances last season, scoring two goals. Her good performances have earned her several call-ups to the first-team squad and she’s already played her first minutes, making her competitive debut in September 2024 in the DFB Cup second round at SC Sand and then her Bundesliga debut on 1 November 2025 against SGS Essen.
The youth international has also caught the eye for Germany from an early age. Having represented the U15, U16 and U17 teams, Zähringer made her debut for Germany U19s in May of last year. Her performances at youth level earned her the gold Fritz Walter Medal in the U17 category last year.
