Fernando Seabra’s move to Vasco is on hold after Coritiba demanded the R$ four million release clause be paid in full upfront. He did not board Thursday night’s flight to Rio and remains in Curitiba.

According to Globo.com, the coach had a ticket for 23:00, but talks between the Rio club and the Paraná side stalled when Vasco sought to pay the clause in instalments and Coritiba insisted on a single payment.

The deal had been regarded as well advanced, with agent Hugo Magalhães, who represents Seabra, posting a celebratory photo alongside him in the early hours of Thursday.

Coritiba’s tougher stance surprised Vasco, who had expected Seabra in Rio to press on with the transition. Behind the scenes, the view is that the Paraná club will not relax the terms set out in the coach’s contract.

Vasco want to split the fee into three parts, but Coritiba have made clear that no release will be signed without the full deposit. The impasse has left Seabra without a start date.

Vasco are trying to piece together a financial solution, with Seabra’s representative involved in the conversations. The stand-off also affects members of his prospective backroom staff, who are waiting on travel plans, while the CBF’s BID registration cannot proceed until the clause is settled. Talks remain open, though the scenario is tougher than it appeared hours earlier.
