A mural by street artist 'TvBoy' honouring Ferran Torres, scorer in the World Cup final against Argentina that delivered Spain the title, was vandalised overnight after being covered with white paint.
According to Superdeporte, the work stood in Barcelona’s Gràcia neighbourhood and showed the Barça player in a Spain shirt kissing the World Cup.
After it was completed on Tuesday, social media users posted objections, and by morning the wall carried messages against Spain and in favour of recognition of Catalan national teams.
The artist said on his social channels that he would keep painting and was not deterred by threats.
In recent days, a separate mural by Axe Colours, honouring Leo Messi and Lamine Yamal in Barcelona for the Spain versus Argentina final, was also vandalised within hours of its creation.
