Ferroviária, Flamengo & Inter into Women’s Copa do Brasil last eight

The first teams to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Women’s Copa do Brasil were confirmed on Monday night (20). Ferroviária, Flamengo, and Internacional defeated Corinthians, Instituto 3B, and Coritiba respectively. The three teams that advanced all won 1-0. The competition continues this Tuesday (21) with three more matchups: Fluminense vs. Cruzeiro, Itabirito vs. Bahia, and Vasco da Gama vs. São Paulo.

GRENÁ WARRIORS

Ferroviária secured its spot by defeating Corinthians 1-0 at Arena Fonte Luminosa in Araraquara (SP). The Grená Warriors opened the scoring in the first half through center back Andressa. For the rest of the match, Ferrinha handled the pressure from Brabas and held on to the score until the final whistle.

GIRLS OF GÁVEA

Flamengo advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Instituto 3B 1-0 in a match played at Luso Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro. Fernanda found the net for the Girls of Gávea in the 22nd minute. During the first half, the Rubro-Negro controlled the match, but it was the team from Amazonas that stood out in the second half. Despite their efforts, Instituto 3B was unable to convert its chances.

COLORADO GIRLS

Playing away from home at Couto Pereira in Curitiba (PR), Internacional also beat Coxa 1-0. In the first half, the Colorado Girls controlled the match, while Coritiba defended and looked to use counterattacks. At the end of the first half, Sole Jaimes found the net for Colorado. The second half was more scrappy and brought no change to the scoreline.

UPCOMING MATCHUPS

The Women’s Copa do Brasil continues this Tuesday (21) with three matches: Fluminense vs. Cruzeiro, Itabirito vs. Bahia, and Vasco da Gama vs. São Paulo. The final teams to qualify for the quarterfinals will be confirmed on Wednesday (22).

It is worth noting that there were changes to the broadcasts of the Itabirito vs. Bahia and Atlético-MG vs. Atlético Piauiense matches. The first match will air on XSports (free-to-air TV and YouTube), while the second will be broadcast on Lance! (YouTube).
