Jack Harrison could return to Leeds United this summer, with Fiorentina not currently minded to activate a £6m buy option, per Corriere dello Sport.

He joined on a six-month loan in January after limited first-half minutes, the deal carrying an option to buy worth around £6m. He started once in the Premier League, a 1-0 defeat at Burnley, and made 10 substitute outings without a goal or assist.

Daniel Farke said he would have preferred to keep him due to a shortage of wing-backs, but Leeds were prepared to respect the player’s wish after so little game time.

In Florence he has 13 appearances in all competitions, seven starts, and no goals. His only assist came in a 2-2 draw with Torino.

As things stand he is expected to head back to West Yorkshire. Fiorentina are fighting for survival, two places and two points clear of Lecce with eight games left, and staying up would trigger clauses totalling about €27m (£23.5m).

That would bite into their summer budget and leave a call to make on wide loanees whose options are not automatic, Harrison and Manor Solomon. Solomon, also signed in January, could cost about £8.7m and has scored twice in 11, making the stronger case if fitness holds.

Harrison has two years left on his Elland Road deal. Leeds moved to bring in Facundo Buonanotte, who cut short his Chelsea loan to join on a temporary basis, though the Argentinian has barely featured and often missed matchday squads this season.
