Flamengo’s vulnerability in the air has become a concern in 2026, with 11 of the 25 goals conceded arriving from aerial situations. According to Globo.com, this trend is drawing opponents’ focus and the tally excludes state matches played by the under-20 side before the first team featured under Filipe Luís.

The trend was evident in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Vasco, when both of the opposition’s goals came via balls into the box. Renato Gaúcho said his side had worked on this route, opting against short corners, with Robert Renan scoring from a Nuno Moreira delivery and Hugo Moura later heading in from a Cuesta cross.

Of those 11 concessions, six occurred while Filipe Luís was in charge, the remaining five have come under Leonardo Jardim.

Earlier in the year there were headed goals for John Kennedy in Fluminense’s 2-1 win and Luciano in São Paulo’s 2-1 victory. Gabriel Paulista struck first for Corinthians in the Supercopa after a short corner.

Barboza scored for Botafogo in Flamengo’s 2-1 away win, Castillo headed in for Lanús in the Recopa, and Lucas Barbosa netted during Bragantino’s 3-0 victory. There were also goals from Erick in Flamengo’s 2-1 win over Vitória and Carrillo in a 1-1 draw with Estudiantes in the Libertadores.
