Filipe Luís has not named the same left winger in back-to-back matches across five senior games in 2026. According to Globo.com, the position remains troublesome despite major outlay.
Natural options Everton Cebolinha and Samuel Lino cost about R$ 228 million combined and are vying for the shirt without convincing.
Cebolinha ended 2025 strongly and currently has the edge. Signed in 2022 for €16 million, he started against Vasco, São Paulo and Internacional, and was substituted each time. He scored against Fluminense off the bench.
Lino, a €22 million signing and the record buy until Lucas Paquetá arrived, is expected to benefit from a full pre-season in 2026. He started only the clássico with Fluminense, came on in three others, and was unused in the Supercopa against Corinthians.
Carrascal, not a specialist on the left, was used there against Corinthians and was sent off for catching Breno Bidon in the face late in the first half.
The 2026 starters there, in sequence, were Everton Cebolinha versus Vasco, Samuel Lino versus Fluminense, Everton Cebolinha versus São Paulo, Carrascal versus Corinthians, and Everton Cebolinha versus Internacional.
Paquetá could also fill that role in a tucked-in brief, but Filipe Luís said he does not see him as an open left winger. He added Paquetá, like Carrascal, can play on the right or centrally, in attack or deeper.
The chopping and changing suggests the search continues. Against Sampaio Corrêa at 21:00 on Saturday at the Maracanã, the front line is likely to be tweaked again.
