Flamengo win court order halting São Paulo’s Taça das Bolinhas handover | OneFootball

Flamengo have won a fresh court order in the fight with São Paulo over the Taça das Bolinhas.

The club said in a statement that the 12th Federal Civil Court of São Paulo reconsidered and revoked an order to deliver the trophy to São Paulo, recognising jurisdiction lies with the Rio de Janeiro courts. It said the Taça remains deposited with Caixa Econômica Federal and that it remains confident of a definitive ruling in its favour.

Last week a new injunction was sought at the Tribunal Regional Federal da 3ª Região to halt any handover. The filing argued there would be irreparable harm if the CBF and Caixa acted before a final judgment, citing an earlier Rio court decision that acknowledged the risk.

The appeal contests a Federal Court ruling that dismissed a São Paulo action, arguing it blocked evidence gathering and breached adversarial and full-defence principles. No final decision has yet been made.

Created by the CBF and Caixa, the Taça das Bolinhas recognises the first club to win three in a row or five alternating Brazilian titles. Flamengo hit that mark with the 1987 crown, but disputes involving 1987 and Sport meant no delivery, and litigation has run since 2007 after São Paulo’s fifth title, when the CBF deemed the trophy theirs.
