According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo head into the Recopa return leg trailing after losing the opener to Lanús, but past turnarounds offer precedent.
At the Maracanã they must win by at least two goals to lift the trophy. A draw would hand the Argentine club the title, while a one-goal home win would take it to penalties.
In the 2001 Campeonato Carioca, Vasco won the first match 2-1. Edilson Capetinha and Petkovic then inspired a 3-1 victory in the return to secure the crown.
In the 2013 Copa do Brasil, Cruzeiro prevailed 2-1 at the Mineirão. Elias scored in the second leg to level the tie, and the away goals rule sent Flamengo into the quarter-finals.
In the 2022 Copa do Brasil, Flamengo lost the first leg 2-1 to Atlético-MG. After Gabigol vowed to make the Maracanã intimidating, Arrascaeta scored twice to turn the tie around in the quarter-finals.
With only a narrow deficit to overturn, Filipe Luís’s side host Lanús on Thursday (26) in the Recopa Sudamericana second leg, kick-off 21:30 Brasília time.
