Sunderland have accelerated plans for the summer window, with Florent Ghisolfi strengthening his recruitment team and targeting greater control of outgoings.
Sunderland Echo reports that the club have moved to bring in Matteo Serra to oversee player exits and loan management, supporting Ghisolfi through the window.
Serra was most recently head of recruitment at Greek top-flight side PAOK, who finished third last season. He has also held recruitment roles with Juventus, PSG and Lille.
Outgoings are set to be central to Sunderland’s work, with several players not in Régis Le Bris’s plans seeking moves. A number of youngsters are being lined up for loans to secure game time, including striker Ahmed Abdullahi.
Ghisolfi will oversee Serra’s remit as he leads a revamped department. He has signalled a quieter summer for incomings to protect the wage bill and stay within the Premier League’s new SCR rules.
He said he believes in season-on-season stability, citing Athletic Bilbao as a model, and does not want to change 15 players a year. He prefers to improve the current group, prioritising quality over quantity and alignment with Sunderland’s values. He likened last summer to a sprint and this one to a more precise marathon.
