A football pundit has called one Chelsea transfer decision this summer as being ‘absolutely crackers’ and some might agree.
Others will disagree of course, because football is a game of opinions and diverse ones at that. But I think many Chelsea fans will likely just agree with this one.
We’ll get to that shortly, but in other news today, we have another big transfer story from Fabrizio Romano that has come out this morning involving Nicolas Jackson and Emmanuel Emegha. One striker is expected never to come back to Chelsea, and the other will be arriving there very soon.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher might finally have a few Chelsea fans agreeing with his latest opinion in the wake of Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Manchester United this weekend. Carragher is pinning his blame on the squad build rather than Enzo Maresca.
In the above comments, Carragher is questioning Chelsea’s centre back options as well, especially with the long-term injury to Levi Colwill. But Chelsea did not sign a new centre back this summer.

Former Premier League player turned pundit Jermaine Pennant has been questioning why Chelsea didn’t sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer.
In quotes picked up on X, Pennant said:
“That one is absolutely crackers, that, to not go for [Marc] Guehi when you lose your main centre-back — out for the season — and you’ve got Guehi…, 40 million, just to make sure the deal’s done.”
He was destined to join Liverpool but the move broke down in the final moments, so he stayed at Crystal Palace anyway. I believe he wasn’t even that interested in a return to Chelsea anyway, so it probably wasn’t even a possibility.
