Forgotten Manchester United wingback Tyrell Malacia is destined to leave Carrington at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old was one of several Dutch players who joined the Red Devils during Erik ten Hag’s reign. The Rotterdam native started his career at his hometown club, Feyenoord, before being sold to MUFC in the summer of 2022 for circa £12 million.

Sadly for the left-back, his once-promising career has been hampered by injuries. A meniscus issue kept him out of action for 500 days between July 2023 and December 2024. Malacia was later sent out on loan to PSV Eindhoven last January, but only made eight league appearances for the Dutch champions.

Following his return from the Netherlands in the summer, Malacia found himself part of Man Utd’s so-called ‘bomb squad’, who were basically players that were omitted from Ruben Amorim’s plans.

But while Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho all managed to seal moves away from Carrington, the Dutchman ended up lingering at the club.

Although Malacia was recently reinstated into the squad, he remains a goner, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano in the latest video update posted on his YouTube channel.

The Italian journalist insists that United have no plans to extend the left-back’s expiring contract. Therefore, the player will ‘100%’ leave the club in 2026.

Tyrell Malacia will leave Man Utd either in January or the summer

It remains to be seen if Malacia will find an escape rope in January or instead see out his contract before signing for a new club as a free agent in the summer.

In the meantime, the Netherlands international might fancy a comeback at United now that he’s a part of the squad once more, but this scenario remains unlikely, especially amidst the lack of commitments, with no European football or Carabao Cup on the schedule.

Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon are both ahead of Malacia in the left wingback pecking order, while Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot are also considered alternative options for this role, even though they’re currently being deployed in other positions.
