The left-back’s contract expires this summer, but recent reports suggest the 27-year-old may be considering extending his stay at the club.
Former Celtic full-back McNamara highlighted the Scotland international’s commitment to Celtic’s style of play, acknowledging how the ex-Killie man has successfully fended off competition for his position in the squad.
Speaking on Sky Sports, McNamara said: “I think he has been a great signing for them. He has been in the team and seen a number of left-backs off. Alexandro Bernabei, Boli Bolingoli, even Alex Valle, coming from Barcelona – you expected him to be the left-back choice.

McNamara also noted the imminent return of Kieran Tierney from Arsenal, as the academy product prepares to rejoin his boyhood club following almost six years in North London.
The ex-Partick Thistle, Dundee United, and York City manager believes Taylor faces a crucial decision with the return of his Scotland teammate. “Kieran for me, coming in for next season, is coming with Champions League quality.
“It’s whether or not Greg Taylor stays to fight for that place with him. You would have Kieran come in in a big way. That’s what Greg will need to see – if he will come in and challenge for that place. But I think he has been a terrific signing. I think he has improved year on year; since today, he is a totally different player.”

McNamara understands more than most the levels it takes to become a successful, well-established Celtic full-back. The best scenario for Brendan Rodgers next season is the option of having Tierney and Taylor as his full-back options. The Celtic boss outlined on Saturday post-match that Taylor will still play games for him if he signs a new deal despite Tierney’s arrival in the summer.
