After only a season, Simone Inzaghi looks set to leave Al-Hilal, despite a two-year contract worth €26 million per season signed last summer.
According to Football Italia, his exit appears imminent, with sources in Saudi Arabia indicating it is all but confirmed once Al-Hilal complete their final Saudi Pro League fixture.
A change in ownership is understood to be a factor, alongside scrutiny of several costly summer signings that failed to deliver the expected returns, notably Darwin Nunez.
The development would return Inzaghi to the European coaching market after less than a year away. Reflecting recently on his Inter departure, he said everything happened quickly, meeting at Marotta’s house with Ausilio and Baccin two days after Monaco. He felt a cycle had ended, the club wished to continue but accepted his decision, they parted on friendly terms, and he added he would have stayed had Inter won the Champions League.
He also noted that he had previously turned down other approaches. The immediate question is whether he pursues a return to Italian football or considers alternatives in Europe.
