Wrexham are vying to utilise the January transfer window to bolster their increasingly impressive Championship promotion credentials.

The Red Dragons are now just six points behind second-place Middlesbrough thanks to four successive wins over the Festive Period, including Sunday's 2-1 triumph over Derby County.

Meanwhile, Wrexham are lining up an eye-watering £14 million bid for an unnamed European striker.

Phil Parkinson's men flexed their financial muscles in the summer transfer window with additions such as Nathan Broadhead and Bean Sheaf, but £14million would mark a club-record fee.

Wrexham told £14M man must be the right player amid Championship promotion push

Wrexham are preparing for an exciting FA Cup clash with Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest on Friday amid their second-tier promotion bid.

Meanwhile, when asked if he was excited by his club's potential £14million bid, Football League World's Red Dragons fan pundit, Liam Grice, said: "It all depends on who the player is. Wrexham spending £14million on one player seems a bit bizarre to me, in the best way possible.

"I never would have imagined, even four years ago, that we'd be spending above £100,000 on a player, and then obviously, with how much we spent in the summer, it has sort of just gone up and up, and up from there.

"It's a bit surreal. We can spend all the money we want, but they've got to be the right player. If it does get leaked who this player is, and a lot of the fans feel like he's not a good fit for the team, then that's the main thing.

"We can spend all the money we want, but it has to be the right player to fit in with the team, and help us progress in the Championship now. Excited, but we also need to wait and see who the player is."

Phil Parkinson's promotion push would be bolstered by extra firepower

Parkinson has already enjoyed incredible achievements at the Racecourse Ground, guiding his side from the National League to the second tier with three successive promotions.

However, vying to earn promotion to the Premier League is a different beast altogether for the Red Dragons, who are now battling alongside strong sides such as Millwall and Ipswich Town to finish in either the playoffs or even the top two.

Wrexham's promotion credentials have been bolstered by forwards such as Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass, who have notched 10 goals and seven goals in the Championship season this term, respectively.

Meanwhile, another incoming forward, potentially worth a mouthwatering club record fee, would only improve the North Welsh side's chances of creating more history by landing four successive promotions from non-league to the top flight.

However, as alluded to by Liam, Wrexham must ensure that any expensive signings this January fit the mould of the increasingly exciting project built by Parkinson and the Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

January is also an important month for the Red Dragons on the field, with key opportunities to earn wins over relegation candidates Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday.
