Gabriel Gudmundsson has played down injury concerns after Sweden’s 3-1 win over Ukraine, and is preparing for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifying play-off with Poland. The Leeds United left back was withdrawn with 13 minutes remaining, a potential worry before Leeds’ FA Cup trip to West Ham on Easter Sunday. Viktor Gyokeres hit a hat-trick, and Poland, who beat Albania 2-1, now await.
"It's the same as always. Take care of your body and make sure you're ready for Tuesday. Of course, I wanted to [play on], but it was a trade-off and it felt good," he told the Sweden Herald.
Gudmundsson has started 28 of Leeds’ 31 Premier League matches this season, making the left back spot his own. He joined from Lille last summer.
He was sent off in his last Leeds appearance, the 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace, which kept him out of the Brentford game.
It was later ruled he should not have received a second yellow after an incident with Ismaila Sarr, with the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents Panel unanimously concluding referee Thomas Bramall was wrong to caution him again. The panel noted there was "minimal contact" and that "the challenge was careless and not clearly reckless". Daniel Farke later said it looked a clear mistake and even questioned whether it was a foul.
