Gabriel Gudmundsson has sought to calm Leeds United’s injury fears after taking a knee knock on Sweden duty. The left-back was optimistic following Thursday’s 3-1 play-off win over Ukraine, ahead of Tuesday’s final against Poland.

He started the World Cup play-off semi-final, in which Viktor Gyokeres hit a hat-trick. Midway through the second half Gudmundsson took a blow to his knee, tried to continue, then made way for Daniel Svensson. He was later seen with an ice pack.

"It's the same as always," he said. "Take care of your body and make sure you're ready for Tuesday. Of course, I wanted to [play on], but it was a trade-off and it felt good." He was speaking to the Sweden Herald.

Leeds will take encouragement from those comments, with the defender having four days to recover before Tuesday. He will hope to be fit to feature in the final. Sweden are 90 minutes and a win from this summer’s World Cup.

"It means an incredible amount, not just to us but to everyone else as well," the Leeds defender added. "There are a lot of positives to take away from this match. We will take that feeling with us."

Gudmundsson later reposted an Instagram image on his story with the caption: "1 more to go."
