Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson has moved to ease concern after a knee knock on Sweden duty.

He started Thursday’s World Cup play-off semi-final, a 3-1 win over Ukraine sealed by a hat-trick from Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres, setting up a final against Poland on Tuesday. “It’s the same as always. Take care of your body and make sure you’re ready for Tuesday. Of course, I wanted to [play on], but it was a trade-off and it felt good,” he told the Sweden Herald.

The left-back took a blow to his knee midway through the second half, tried to continue, then made way for Daniel Svensson.

His positive update will reassure Leeds, with the defender having four days to recover before hopefully being fit to feature again.

“It means an incredible amount, not just to us but to everyone else as well. There are a lot of positives to take away from this match. We will take that feeling with us.”
