Gabriel Gudmundsson has played down talk of Chelsea interest, insisting he is content at Leeds United and views it as recognition of form.

“I haven’t had a focus on it because there has been so much with Leeds, the World Cup and then I have become a father now so I have really zoned out from that part of football,” he said. “But it’s nice that they see me as an alternative and it’s a sign that something good has been done, then we’ll see what happens but I’m happy where I am.” He was speaking to Sport Witness.

The left-back has completed his first Leeds season, extended by a World Cup with Sweden, playing all four matches to the last-32 before a 3-0 loss to favourites France.

It capped a relentless year since his £10million move last July, with 48 games for club and country and the arrival of his first child. Links to Chelsea have barely registered.

Leeds may face interest in Gudmundsson and other key players after last season, though he settled quickly following a switch from France.

His driving runs and work-rate made him a favourite at Elland Road in a more attacking wing-back role.

“Hand on heart I can say that the Leeds fans are the best in England and they have supported us in a really good way this season. I don’t think you understand how big the club is until you are in it.”
