Galatasaray failed in an approach to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Ilan Meslier (25), according to a report from Foot Mercato.
After a difficult past two seasons, Meslier has lost his starting place in goal at Leeds United. The Frenchman was part of the side that earned promotion back to the Premier League last season, however, his season between the sticks was marked – once again – by some high-profile errors.
As a result, Leeds sought out a replacement for Meslier this season and signed Lucas Perri from Olympique Lyonnais. His arrival, it was thought, would signal the end to the Frenchman’s time at Elland Road.
However, a move has not materialised. His formative club, FC Lorient were interested in bringing the goalkeeper back to the club, whilst it has now been revealed that Galatasaray made an attempt to sign the player.
The Turkish club were desperate to find a new No.1 and sought out many targets, including Meslier, Al-Hilal’s Yassine Bounou, and former Manchester City GK Ederson. They ultimately ended up signing Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Cakir in a €30m deal.
