Liverpool face Arsenal this weekend in the WSL and despite the clear mismatch, Gareth Taylor still has faith in his team ahead of Sunday.

The Reds are 14 points behind Arsenal in the league but they can definitely cause an upset against a team struggling for form.

Liverpool have belief

Garth Taylor’s Liverpool team are still yet to win a game in the WSL this season.

Despite their terrible start to the campaign, Liverpool still haven’t lost all hope in the WSL.

Speaking ahead of his team’s game against Arsenal this weekend, Taylor insisted that his team is ready to go for the huge meeting at the Emirates.

“There was always belief there,” Taylor said. “Sometimes, it might not always look that way from the outside looking in but internally, the players are really onboard with what we are trying to do. You can see signs of it growing in terms of us being a little bit more difficult to play against.

“Outside of Everton in the first game of the season, where we played some of the best football but ended up with a really weird scoreline, we’ve never been beaten by more than the odd goal, other than 2-0 against Man United. That tells you that we are moving it in the right direction.”

Liverpool have drawn back to back games in the league and points against Brighton and Liverpool both look good for the Reds, but they will need more if they are to stay up.

With the WSL expanding to 14 teams from next year, only the team bottom of the top flight is facing relegation this season. The team that finishes 12th will play third place in WSL2 in a playoff for the right to stay in the first division.

Taylor praises tricky Arsenal side

Although Arsenal have struggled for form in the past month, they still come into Sunday’s game as considerable favourites to pick up the win.

Gareth Taylor knows just how good the Gunners can be on their day and he certainly isn’t taking that for granted.

“They’re a team that are blessed with a lot of talent, not only technical, tactical understanding but also, good physical capabilities as well. They’ve got a bench that’d get into most WSL teams as well.

“The challenge is big but that’s what we look for and get excited about. They like to play similar to Mikel [Arteta] and the men’s team but we certainly have a specific game plan like we had against Chelsea where we will try and hurt them in certain areas both with and without the ball.”

An upset for Liverpool certainly isn’t off the cards, but their depleted squad suggests a comfortable Arsenal win.

Taylor admitted last month that his team need some help in the January transfer window if they are to stay up.
