Manchester United legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane are in agreement over Benjamin Sesko’s role in the team ahead of the upcoming fixtures.

Sesko in fine form

Sesko is currently enjoying a rich vein of form, with the striker now looking settled after a slightly difficult start to life at the club.

He was the hero of the day yet again as United outclassed Everton 1-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to make it six games unbeaten under Michael Carrick. Sesko was introduced from the bench and scored the decisive goal to secure all three points for his side.

The strike was Sesko’s third since Carrick’s appointment as caretaker boss. It was a crucial one, helping steer United close to their primary objective of finishing within the guaranteed Champions League spots.

Sesko has been afforded 98 minutes by Carrick and in that time, has been responsible for two wins and a draw for the Red Devils.

There have been growing calls for the Slovenian to start games, although he himself does not appear to be too fussed about it.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Neville argued that Sesko’s time to start has surely come and Keane agreed with his assessment.

Neville and Keane agree over Sesko

Neville said, “In terms of Sesko he’s going to play him at the weekend, you would think now, he’s definitely grown, a little bit like [Viktor] Gyokeres in these last few weeks.”

Keane agreed and emphasised the big chance witnessed in the 22-year-old. “Confidence, yeah,” Keane remarked.

He added, “But even earlier in the season, I think we mentioned, even though he was missing one or two chances, but he was getting into the good positions, you think, ‘He’s doing the right stuff, he’s got a lot of confidence and belief.'”

Neville questioned, “Does he look quicker and more powerful?”

Keane answered, “Isn’t that always the case when someone is scoring goals? Attacking players, the weight has been lifted off their shoulders. Maybe the test will be you’ve got to be the main man now, can you take that? He’s coming off the bench and getting up to speed of the game.”

On Sesko’s Everton goal, former Arsenal talisman Ian Wright explained, “What people underestimate is that the ball has come across to Sesko, his concentration and finish was so [good].”

“He had a long time to look at it and people underestimate. They think that’s easy because it’s just him and the goalie, but that finish and the contact, the timing, it was fantastic.”

Neville noted, “Everybody in that stadium, as the ball came across to him, knew what he had to do; it’s a long time to look at it, but he just did it.”

Sesko and United return to action on Sunday when they host Crystal Palace.
