Il Messaggero reports that Gennaro Gattuso is involved in Lazio’s pursuit of Dinamo Zagreb defender Sergi Dominguez, believing his relationship with club president Zvonimir Boban could help move talks forward.
The chase has dragged on for over a month, with the Biancocelesti targeting the 21-year-old Spaniard to replace Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli, despite adding Danilho Doekhi on a free earlier this week.
Last week sporting director Angelo Fabiani travelled to Split but returned without progress. Lazio tabled €3.5 million for an initial loan plus an €8.5 million option to buy, short of an original €15 million valuation. Dinamo also owe 20% of any fee to Dominguez’s former club Barcelona.
Gattuso’s involvement could soften Dinamo’s stance, although the sides remain apart on the formula. Zagreb are open to a loan with an obligation to buy, while Lazio want the obligation to trigger only if they qualify for Europe next season, a condition the Croatians reject. They point out Lazio have not reached Europe in two attempts.
Further talks are expected in the coming days. Lazio are prepared to turn to Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo only after exhausting every avenue for Dominguez, who remains their priority.
