José Luis Gayà trained today in a protective mask after two heavy blows in Sevilla forced him off and led to a hospital visit.

According to AS, it proved only a scare and he travelled back to Valencia with his team-mates. With no league fixtures last week, he worked alone to avoid contact. The squad had three days off, then resumed yesterday ahead of Celta.

The Valencia captain will wear the mask throughout the week and may use it at Mestalla on Sunday. The black protector features two club crests on the sides and his name across the front.

Gayà has worn a mask before. In 2019 he suffered a broken nasal septum after a blow at Leganés. He avoided surgery and continued playing, saying only a very serious nose problem would have stopped him featuring in the cup semi-final second leg against Betis.

At Paterna, Ugrinic again trained alone as he recovers from patellar tendon discomfort. His involvement is uncertain, with 10 sessions now completed away from the group and no return until the pain eases.

Beyond the injured Copete, Agirrezabala, Foulquier and Diakhaby, Cömert and Dimitrievski were also absent due to international duty. They are expected to rejoin training tomorrow.
