Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has stepped down for the role with Jürgen Klopp the DFB's preferred successor.
Nagelsmann saw his side surprisingly knocked out of the 2026 World Cup after just four games following a penalty shootout defeat to underdogs Paraguay.
Following that result pressure increased on the 38-year-old who has now stepped down from the role.
"The decision was anything but easy for me," Nagelsmann said about his resignation.
"My primary goal has always been the success of the team. After such a bitter disappointment, she deserves the chance for an unburdened new beginning.
"I would like to thank my coaching team, the staff and everyone in the association who supported us, especially the players with whom I had the privilege of working. Special thanks also go to the fans. You carried us, you trusted us, you gave us energy, even in difficult times.
"I am deeply sorry and hurt that we disappointed you and were unable to bring you any more football nights at this World Cup. You deserved so much more!"
The DFB also confirmed their ideal successor: Jürgen Klopp. The former Liverpool manager took a step back from that role but is believed to be ready for a return with the German national team.
