Gonzalo Plata loses place under Leonardo Jardim as Flamengo future uncertain | OneFootball

Gonzalo Plata has fallen out of favour at Flamengo under Leonardo Jardim. He was omitted from the squad to face Corinthians on Sunday 22 March for technical reasons, leaving his future in doubt.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the Ecuadorian forward has struggled to adapt to Jardim's playing model.

Plata enjoyed his best spell under Filipe Luís, operating as a versatile option across the attack. He featured on the right flank, as a second striker, as a creator and even as a false nine.

Since joining in the second half of 2024 he has made 82 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists. Under Jardim he has come on late in only two of four matches, totalling 21 minutes.

Despite a contract that runs to 2029, competition is intense. The arrival of Lucas Paquetá and Carrascal's strong run have squeezed his minutes. Flamengo are not ruling out a deal if a suitable offer arrives in the coming months.
