Sunday night’s game between Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais is almost certain to be Habib Beye’s last as manager of the former, as per a report from L’Équipe.
Of course, he started the season with the latter, before losing his job in February. He quickly bounced back, however. He was named as Roberto De Zerbi’s successor at OM. He arrived with the club fourth in Ligue 1 and handed two tasks: qualify for the UEFA Champions League and reach the final of the Coupe de France.
Whilst there remains a chance of Marseille securing UEFA Europa League football for next season heading into the final day of the Ligue 1 season, Beye has failed on both accounts. And with the club languishing in sixth and with tensions at all levels of the club, there is a feeling that OM have regressed.
L’Équipe understands that incoming sporting director, Grégory Lorenzi, will choose his own man when he takes the reins, as expected, this summer. Beye’s short reign is, therefore, reaching an end.
