According to Superdeporte, Guido Rodríguez is poised to become Valencia’s third and probably final winter signing, pending official confirmation. He landed in Manises on Sunday and underwent medical checks on Monday.

He did not arrive in time to face Espanyol. If he gets minutes next weekend, his debut would come against former club Real Betis.

It will not be at the Benito Villamarín, under renovation all season, but at La Cartuja in Seville. A reunion with Betis supporters in his first Valencia minutes would be highly emotional for the Argentine.

Despite a quieter Premier League spell, the 2022 world champion has a proven LaLiga record as a Betis regular. From Tuesday he will train under Corberán and has several days to adapt before Sunday’s Betis v Valencia, when he could feature, though a start looks unlikely.

He arrives as Corberán appears to have a reliable pivot in Pepelu and Ugrinic. The signing was needed, but he must earn a place. Either way, he strengthens a role that has troubled the team since matchday one.

His profile is similar to Pepelu, more positional, so he would likely be paired with a player like Ugrinic. A Pepelu-Guido double pivot with a mobile midfielder ahead, a conservative option, could also be used.

Rodríguez left Betis in summer 2024 to join West Ham United. Signed in 2020, he became a cornerstone under Manuel Pellegrini, anchoring European pushes and helping deliver the 2022 Copa del Rey, earning deep respect.
