Habib Beye is on the verge of becoming the new head coach of Olympique de Marseille, following discussions between club owner Frank McCourt and supporter representatives on Tuesday, according to RMC Sport.

McCourt was speaking at La Commanderie alongside Medhi Benatia, and confirmed that Beye’s arrival is imminent. The move is now subject only to validation from the French football league’s legal commission to ensure he is formally released from his contract with Stade Rennais.

The former OM defender is understood to have accepted what has been described internally as a short-term deal, a factor that facilitated negotiations. The 48-year-old would return to the Vélodrome amid significant institutional change and pressure to secure a podium finish in Ligue 1.Following the decision to retain Medhi Benatia as sporting director, Beye is now set to join the club as manager.
