Following the decision to retain Medhi Benatia as sporting director, Olympique de Marseille now look all set to appoint their new manager in the form of Habib Beye.

Beye had looked all set to arrive at Marseille and succeed Roberto De Zerbi as manager. The Frenchman was sacked as manager of Stade Rennais the day before De Zerbi’s exit, and his exit from the Breton club is still being negotiated. It is expected to be finalised today.

He was the strong favourite to become the new OM manager until Benatia announced that he was resigning as sporting director. However, on Tuesday, there was a spectacular U-turn. The club’s owner, Frank McCourt, announced that not only would Benatia remain, but that his role would be enlarged.

Those changes, Romain Molina understands, will ensure the arrival of Beye on the bench. Foot Mercato adds that, during a meeting with the squad, McCourt announced that he has met the club’s new manager, thought to be Beye, the No.1 target.

Talks between the former Rennes manager and OM are expected to take place on Tuesday, with the former already in the city.
