Hamburg open talks with Arsenal for Fábio Vieira | OneFootball

With seven goals and five assists in 29 Bundesliga appearances in 2025/26, it’s no secret that Fábio Vieira’s performances helped secure Hamburg’s top flight status. And now the Bundesliga returnees are working on keeping the Portuguese playmaker at the club.

According to Sky Germany, HSV are doing everything they can to keep Vieira at the club beyond his loan spell. Merlin Polzin wants to build the team around him, and the 25-year-old is open to staying but the Bundesliga club must now find an agreement with Arsenal.

As reported in February, Hamburg retained a €20m buy option for Vieira but it’s unlikely that die Rothosen are unable to pay such a fee. As such, they will look to negotiate a lower fee, while another loan could be an option for all parties with a re-negotiated purchase option.

Speaking in February, Vieira explained: “I really like the city, it’s very beautiful and they have a large Portuguese community here. When I’m longing for Portuguese people or food, I just have to go to the Portuguese quarter. This way, the city makes it easy to feel at home.”
