Maguire’s future at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season had appeared uncertain, with his previous deal due to expire this summer.

However, it was reported last month that the England defender was close to agreeing new terms, which have now been officially confirmed by the club.

The former captain, 33, has put pen to paper on a one-year extension at United that is valid until the end of June 2027 and includes the option for a further 12 months beyond that.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour,” Maguire told United’s official website. “It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.

“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.

“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”

United’s director of football Jason Wilcox added: “Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.

“Harry, like everyone at the club, is completely determined to help Manchester United to achieve regular and sustained success.”

Maguire joined United from Leicester for £80million in 2019 - then a world-record transfer fee for a defender. He has gone on to make 266 total appearances across all competitions and served as club captain between 2020 and 2023.

Maguire’s contract extension with United is widely expected to be followed by that of England team-mate Mainoo, who has regained a regular first-team role under interim head coach Michael Carrick over recent months having been largely overlooked by predecessor Ruben Amorim, leading to speculation over an exit.

Mainoo’s current deal - which has a one-year club option - expires in the summer of 2027 but he is reported to have been offered a new and improved five-year contract lasting until 2031.

Both players were recently recalled by Thomas Tuchel for England’s final two games before he names his World Cup squad in May and will hope to be included for the tournament in North America.
