The XI of players called upon by Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick for the club’s latest outing has sparked fresh chatter surrounding the situation of one player.

The Blaugrana star in question? Frenkie de Jong.

Midfielder De Jong has for his part found himself consistently condemned to a place on the bench over recent weeks.

After missing a couple of fixtures owing to a bout of illness, the Dutchman has not managed to wrestle back what previously appeared to be an undisputed starting berth.

Instead, Hansi Flick has surprisingly continued to opt for Eric García – a natural defender – as Pedri’s engine room partner.

With the fixtures continuing to come thick and fast for Barcelona, the widespread expectation was that De Jong would at last be restored to the Catalans’ midfield to face Osasuna this evening.

But as alluded to above, this has not proven to be the case, with Eric again relied upon by Hansi Flick at the Camp Nou:
