Fisnik Asllani was most recently considered a top candidate to bolster FC Bayern’s offense. But the TSG Hoffenheim forward will likely not be moving to Munich—a league rival is reportedly in the lead.

The Bundesliga transfer market is heating up—and Fisnik Asllani is right in the middle of it. According to consistent reports, the 23-year-old is on the verge of a move within the league. However, it wouldn’t be FC Bayern that benefits, but rather a direct rival.

According to reports by BILD and Sky, the transfer of the Kosovar national team striker is expected to be finalized this month. Although Asllani’s contract in Kraichgau runs through 2029, it includes a release clause of 30 million euros. RB Leipzig is said to be invoking precisely this clause—and is now considered the clear favorite to secure the deal.

FC Bayern will likely come away empty-handed with Asllani

This would mean the Saxons have prevailed against notable competition. According to reports, in addition to FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona were also said to be interested. Asllani himself had previously spoken publicly about the interest from Munich—but in the end, Leipzig is expected to win the race.

Another sign pointing to an imminent transfer is that the forward has recently been absent: He did not play in Hoffenheim’s friendly against SGV Freiberg or at the start of the training camp in Seefeld, Austria—presumably to avoid any unnecessary risk of injury ahead of the transfer.

Why Asllani Was Considered a Candidate

A look at last season explains the widespread interest: 18 goals in 33 Bundesliga matches underscore that the Berlin native has established himself as one of the league’s most consistent goal scorers. At RB, where Martin Demichelis is the new coach, he could also play in the Champions League in the future—Hoffenheim missed out on qualifying, while Leipzig made it.

For TSG, his departure would be a bitter loss. Following Bazoumana Touré’s 50-million transfer to Newcastle, Asllani is expected to bring the next big sum into the club’s coffers. According to kicker, another forward, Gift Orban, is also reportedly set to leave for Turkey.

If the deal goes through in July, it would be one of the biggest Bundesliga-to-Bundesliga transfers of the summer. FC Bayern had already made a costly league transfer of its own during this window, signing Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt for over 50 million euros.
