‘He won’t get there alone’ – Karim Benzema calls on Kylian Mbappé to ‘combine’ with Real Madrid teammates | OneFootball

After a difficult start to life at Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé (26) has been prolific in recent months. So far this season, he has 19 goals in as many games in all competitions, and that form has translated on the international stage, too, where he has five goals in his last six games for France. He is now just two goals behind Les Bleus’ all-time top scorer, Olivier Giroud.

In his debut season, despite being the subject of criticism, Mbappé nonetheless scored 44 goals for Los Blancos, finishing as the top scorer across Europe’s top five leagues. However, it was a season that ended without Real Madrid winning a major trophy, and it was the club that he just left, Paris Saint-Germain, who instead won the biggest prize of all, the UEFA Champions League. 

That remains the main goal for Real Madrid and for Mbappé (at least at club level) this season. He has now been given advice from one of his former international teammates, Karim Benzema (37), on how to reach that objective. 

“He has to combine with Vinicius Jr,” the former France international told AS. “Real Madrid are counting on Mbappé for these moments to win the UCL. I think that he can get there with the other players. He won’t get there alone. He needs Vinicius, the other players… that’s how it is. I think that Vinicius, Mbappé, Rodrygo, even if he isn’t playing a lot, (Jude) Bellingham… they have to communicate.”

He continued, “One of them is there to score goals, the other to make assists. You won’t tell Bellingham to score goals because that’s Mbappé’s job, in the same way that you wouldn’t ask the latter to be the No.1 because that is Bellingham’s role. They have to talk. He (Mbappé) is doing better. He needs to focus more in these moments when Real Madrid need him because  he has everything to do it.”
