Despite taking the lead midway through the first half through Piotr Zielinski, Inter headed into the break on level terms.

Indeed, Giovane restored parity on the stroke of halftime with a superb finish from inside the box, though Yann Sommer could’ve perhaps done better.

When it looked like Inter would drop two valuable points, Martin Frese scored an unfortunate own goal in injury time of the second half.

Curiously, it was the fourth own goal in Inter’s favor in 2025, making the Nerazzurri the most fortuitous side in Serie A this calendar year.

Meanwhile, it was also Inter’s first goal in second-half stoppages since Davide Frattesi’s strike against Udinese in April 2024.

Frese’s own goal extended Inter’s formidable unbeaten run against Verona to a whopping 30 matches.

Furthermore, it helped the Nerazzurri close the gap to table-topping Napoli to a single point.
