The Blues advanced to the FA Cup semi finals, and booked a trip to Wembley with a 7-0 thrashing of the League One outfit.
There were seven different goal scorers, and Chelsea recorded a rare clean sheet on a near perfect afternoon for Liam Rosenior.
Rosenior named a strong starting line-up, with Palmer deployed in the number ten role, whilst Pedro Neto and Estevao were on the wings.
Palmer was named captain by Rosenior, and whilst the 23-year-old wasn’t able to get amongst the goals, the head coach was impressed with how he led the side.
It’s been a difficult season for Palmer, who missed virtually the entire first half of the campaign with a groin injury, but after the Port Vale game he made an admission about his condition.
“Yeah, I feel good, I feel like I’ve turned a corner,” he told Chelsea’s media team.
“Physically, I feel good now, I can finally shoot again, and I can do everything again. So yeah, it’s just about kicking on and performing.”
