Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Bournemouth sensation Antoine Semenyo is firmly on Liverpool’s shortlist for the January transfer window.

With the Reds currently languishing in 11th place in the Premier League, the club is reportedly weighing up a move for the in-form winger, who has a release clause understood to be in the region of £65 million.

Liverpool’s season has hit a crisis point following their recent 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, and head coach Arne Slot is desperate for reinforcements to salvage a campaign that is rapidly spiraling out of control.

Fabrizio Romano on Liverpool’s interest in Semenyo

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano provided a concrete update on Liverpool’s pursuit of the Ghanaian international. He revealed that the Anfield hierarchy is well-aware of the financial conditions required to bring Semenyo to Merseyside.

However, Romano cautioned that a deal is not imminent just yet, as Liverpool must first finalize their January strategy after a heavy summer of spending.

He also warned of stiff competition, naming Man United, Tottenham and Manchester City all among those who would be interested in signing him.

Romano said:

“I maintain my information on Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. Liverpool have his name on their short list for sure.

“Liverpool are considering Semenyo for the January transfer window. The Reds are well informed on the disclosed £60 million plus £5m.

“Semenyo remains a topic for Liverpool for sure. is a player they are tracking, is a player they are following.

“Now what has to happen to see moving to Liverpool? Liverpool need to decide internally what they want to do in January. Something like okay we like this player let’s go for it.

“After spending already big money in the summer they need to decide on the technical and financial point of view what they want to do in the January transfer window.

“So this is going to be decided in the next weeks for sure. But Liverpool are seriously considering Semeno.

“They’re not the only club because I told you last summer Semenyo was in the list of Man United. Last summer Semenyo was in the list of Tottenham. Manchester City are also following the players. So keep an eye also Man City. There is a lot of interest in Semenyo.

“It is an opportunity on the market. A player who is doing fantastic for Bournemouth, for this money which is a big amount but still worth it. And so for sure Liverpool are really interested in the player tracking the player.”

Why Semenyo could improve Liverpool

Liverpool’s attack has looked disjointed this term, scoring just 18 goals in 12 league games, a significant drop-off from their usual standards.

Big-money summer signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have struggled to adapt, while Mohamed Salah has also looked far from his usual best.

Semenyo’s raw physicality and ball-carrying ability would offer Arne Slot a different profile of attacker, one capable of breaking low blocks and creating chaos in the final third.

His ability to play across various positions would allow the Reds to use him on the right during Salah’s AFCON absence as well.

With the Reds facing a critical month to save their season, triggering Semenyo’s release clause in January could be the decisive move that turns their fortunes around.
