Spanish Brass are still processing one of the standout moments of their 37-year career after performing Spain’s national anthem on the pitch before the World Cup final against Argentina. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Valencian quintet delivered a minute-long rendition after three frantic days of calls, flights, security checks and rehearsals.

The five players walked to the centre circle before about 80,000, with millions watching on television. Trombonist Inda Bonet found the walk to the centre the most intense moment, their parts having been memorised at speed.

Final confirmation arrived on Friday after an initial midweek enquiry. They travelled immediately, completed stadium and sound checks, and rehearsed their route on and off the field.

Unlike earlier matches at the tournament, when anthems were played from recordings, organisers opted for live performances on the pitch for the final. Spanish Brass won Spain’s National Music Prize in 2020.

Backstage they shared areas with invited guests including Shakira, Tom Cruise, Laura Pausini and conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Security and timings left no opportunity to approach Spain’s players or staff.

They hope the occasion highlights brass playing and Valencia’s band tradition. The group now fly home for the Festival Internacional de Panticosa on Thursday, then a concert in El Puig on Saturday.
