An inquest has been opened into the death of South Africa World Cup footballer Jayden Adams, 25, after his body was found at a property in Cape Town. No cause of death has been released.
“As you all know, it was an untimely death. The family is struggling to process it,” said his father, Juanito Adams, speaking to eNCA. “It won’t be easy to carry on. People say it will become easier, but it won’t. You just learn to live with it.”
His body was discovered in the Schotsche Kloof neighbourhood at about 11am on Saturday. Circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
Adams died two weeks after helping South Africa reach a World Cup knockout stage for the first time. He played in all three group matches, then did not feature in the 1-0 loss to Canada in the round of 32 on 28 June.
Moments of silence and tributes were held for Adams at the England vs Norway and Argentina vs Switzerland quarter-finals on Saturday.
