Inter Milan veteran Yann Sommer has earned a flattering recognition for his well-documented goalkeeping skills.
According to Goal.com via FCInterNews, the 36-year-old is among the top 25 shot-stoppers in the 21st century.
Sommer earned a household status in the Bundesliga.
Indeed, he enjoyed a rise to prominence at Borussia Monchengladbach.
After nine years at Borussia-Park, he joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 as a short-term replacement for Manuel Neuer.
However, the Bavarians sold the ex-Switzerland international to Inter the following year.
The Nerazzurri signed Sommer to fill the void left by Andre Onana’s transfer to Manchester United.
Unsurprisingly, Beppe Marotta’s decision to land the experienced stopper has been spot on.
Retired Juventus megastar Gianluigi Buffon has won the tag of the best goalkeeper of the century.
Meanwhile, Neuer sits second, narrowly ahead of legendary Bayern Munich keeper Oliver Kahn.
As for Sommer, he occupies 22nd place.
Given his form in Serie A, there’s a genuine feeling he deserves a better ranking.
Indeed, Sommer earned a spot in Serie A’s Team of the Season.
Furthermore, no keeper from Europe’s traditional top-five leagues boasts more clean sheets than the Inter star.
