It was reported that the Reds were keen on a deal for the full-back following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The 25-year-old was a key part of Kieran McKenna’s side in their return to the top flight, contributing one goal and two assists from 33 appearances.

However, a 19th place finish meant their time in the division lasted just one year, which led to speculation that Davis could move on from Portman Road.

But he instead remained with the Suffolk outfit, with the team aiming to earn their place back in the Premier League again at the first attempt.

Davis has reiterated his commitment to helping Ipswich gain promotion back to the Premier League this season, suggesting this has always been his primary focus.

He’s indicated that any decision over his future is not up to him, and that his goal is to help the Tractor Boys do the best they can rather than look for a move away from the club.

“That’s not up to me off the pitch,” said Davis, via TWTD.

“I was focused on everything I could be to get this club back up to the Premier League.

“I had all eyes on being here this year, doing everything I can to push everyone at the club to get back where the club belongs.

“That’s all my focus was all summer.

“I had the rest time and summer to switch off and then when I came back in, all my focus was on trying to get the club back up and keep pushing as a player.”

Leif Davis’ importance to Ipswich

Davis initially joined Ipswich in the 2022 summer transfer window, arriving from Leeds United after an unsuccessful loan spell with Bournemouth in the Championship.

He immediately cemented himself as a key part of McKenna’s team, registering three goals and 14 assists from 43 appearances as they came second in the League One table.

The left-back continued to impress with the side now in the second tier, as he reached two goals and 18 assists, with Ipswich again coming second.

He’ll be hoping for a similar impact this year, with the Tractor Boys currently ninth in the table and set to face Middlesbrough in their first game back from the October international break this Friday.

Keeping Leif Davis was great business for Ipswich

Ipswich sold the likes of Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson following their relegation, which weakened their attacking options.

Losing Davis as well would’ve been a further blow given how crucial he’s been at both ends of the pitch in the last few years.

Interest from Nottingham Forest would’ve been tempting, especially given their Europa League qualification.

That Ipswich were able to hold onto him shows the faith he has in their long-term prospects under McKenna, and their ability to gain promotion back to the Premier League swiftly.
