Ipswich Town have been linked with a move for Newcastle United striker William Osula before the transfer deadline, with Kieran McKenna's side eyeing a new forward.

Versatile forward Anis Mehmeti and central midfielder Dan Neil have joined the Tractor Boys this month and more players could be arriving through the Portman Road door before Monday's transfer deadline.

The link between Ipswich and Osula emerged via the East Anglian Daily Times, with the Dane said to be among a number of names being spoken about as a potential option to strengthen McKenna’s first-team squad.

There is hope that the 22-year-old’s lack of game time could lead the Magpies to sanctioning a loan deal, with both Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa ahead of him in the pecking order for Eddie Howe.

Osula has been out for the last two months with an ankle problem, but he was trusted by Howe during the Alexander Isak saga, then when Wissa was out at the beginning of the campaign, and while Woltemade settled in.

He scored three goals and notched an assist in just 344 minutes in that time but the latter are now back fit and firing, meaning a loan could be in his best interests to a side like Ipswich.

Football League World have spoken to our Ipswich Town fan pundit Adam Wilkin about the possibility of signing Osula and whether he would welcome the Danish centre-forward.

He said: "Will Osula is again the type of player in the mould of what McKenna would look for in a striker. I think a Premier League loan is more likely than taking a punt on a foreign striker in this window.

"With someone who knows English football and who will know what it takes to get the job done. I think that, the only problem is, we're at our loan limit.

"That's in terms of the number of loans that can be included in a matchday squad, I think? So, that would mean someone would have to miss out every week.

"But I think Osula would be a fantastic fit. He's big, he's strong, he's powerful, and he's good back-to-goal.

"I think he'd score a hatful in the Championship. And he would also be a solid investment if it was on a permanent deal.

"A solid investment for Premier League football, potentially, next season."

Newcastle United striker Will Osula's career stats so far

Osula needs to sign for a club who will give him regular minutes, having seldom been able to put a run of games together in his fledgling career thus far.

A permanent move appears to be unlikely if Newcastle are still keen to see how he develops in the coming seasons. Osula has potential for someone so physically impressive.

Bayer Leverkusen seemed to think so in the summer, even if a deal did not materialise, which is why Ipswich may have to agree to an initial loan without a buy option. The future figure may be beyond them if a club of that stature is also keen.
