Curtis Jones Faces Fresh Liverpool Opportunity Despite Inter Milan Interest

Inter Milan Interest Falls Below Liverpool Valuation

The discussion began with Gibbs referencing reports of an improved offer from Inter Milan, while questioning whether a formal second bid had actually materialised.

Steele outlined Liverpool’s stance clearly.

“Inter bid £22m about a month ago, and Liverpool basically told them to go away.”

He explained why.

“Liverpool want £35m-£40m.”

While Inter’s interest remains genuine, Steele suggested recent developments have been less advanced than some reports indicated.

“I think Inter have expressed an interest still.”

He also questioned whether recent speculation had been overstated.

“I think it was more of an expression of interest, informal maybe, rather than a formal offer.”

Andoni Iraola Offers Curtis Jones Fresh Hope

The biggest development discussed was Iraola’s public backing of Jones following his arrival as Liverpool head coach.

Steele admitted those comments caught his attention.

“I was actually really interested by what Iraola said on Monday.”

He contrasted the new manager’s approach with that of his predecessor.

“Slot in the past would maybe tiptoe around the subject, whereas Iraola was quite direct in saying he really likes him and he wants him to stay.”

For Steele, those remarks could prove significant.

“That can only be a good thing.”

He also believes Liverpool’s new tactical approach may suit Jones more naturally.

“The style of play that the new manager plays could suit Curtis Jones.”

Liverpool Midfielder Has Chance to Change Narrative

Steele believes pre season could offer Jones an opportunity to establish himself under the new coaching staff.

“There’s an opening there in the midfield.”

He challenged the Liverpool midfielder to seize the moment.

“Can he get in front of the new manager and finally make a case to be in the starting XI week in, week out?”

Reflecting on Jones’ recent role, Steele suggested consistency has been the missing ingredient.

“I think he’s always in this sort of position where he’s one of the first subs when everyone’s fit, but he’s never really quite nailed down a consistent starting spot.”

Liverpool Decision Still Far From Made

Although Steele acknowledged Jones appeared ready to move earlier this year, he stopped well short of suggesting a transfer is inevitable.

“I think he sort of made his mind up that he wanted to leave at some point in the spring.”

However, circumstances have changed.

“It’s an open situation.”

Steele even raised the possibility that Jones could delay any decision while working under Iraola.

“I would wonder whether he just decides, let’s do one more year and see what happens after that.”

That conclusion neatly reflects Liverpool’s current position. Inter Milan remain interested, Liverpool continue to value Jones highly, and Iraola has already made his admiration for the midfielder public.

For now, the transfer story appears less about an imminent departure and more about whether Liverpool’s new head coach can convince one of the club’s own graduates that his long term future still belongs at Anfield.
